Crafting Soup
A series of comforting soup recipes to elevate your crafting, relaxation and wellbeing.
I remember having a conversation with my partner not long after we got together about what makes us happy. And well there were several things, but curling up in a chair, with a big mug of soup listening to the rain was pretty high up on my list. Nowadays you could substitute soup for my knitting, but really what I was saying was that simple things…simple pleasures…make me happy. The act of sitting quietly and finding comfort in something that nourishes both the mind and our physical wellbeing is, in many respects, a luxury in this day and age. But I firmly believe that these simple acts should be normalised and cherished once again.
Now the art of soup making, like yarn crafts, is often overlooked these days. We see tins and cartons and plastic containers of ‘homemade recipe’ soup, just like we see complex colourwork jumpers priced at nowhere near their handcrafted value online and instore. And that’s fine…occasionally…but sometimes we need to accept that convenience isn’t as always going to provide the comfort and nourishment to our whole being needs. And just like we can use new or leftover yarn to create something wonderful, cost effective and sustainable, so we can make soups that nourish, comfort and reduce food waste from whatever ingredients and leftovers we have in our fridges and cupboards.
With this in mind, and knowing the benefits of taking time to slow down and appreciate the simple things, I decided to put a series of recipe posts together called Crafting Soup to help fellow crafters (and anyone else) find even more ways to enhance their enjoyment of those quiet self care moments.
Each recipe will have a little background story to go with it and there will be vegetarian/vegan alternatives if you any of the recipes use meat or meat based stocks. The first recipe is for Lentil and Bacon soup and I’ll be sharing my version of it with you later in the week.
Until next time…
Will the bacon be optional? For those who don't eat pork. Thanks
Great idea, nothing quite like homemade soup
